Linda Laird is an artist who works in fiber and mixed media. By profession, she has been a theatrical costumer, milliner, and backstage dresser for professional theatre and opera.
Linda is a 3rd generation Southern Californian who moved to Colorado in 2012 to be closer to her son Jim, also an artist. She and her husband Doug decided it was time for a new adventure, and so far it’s been great. They refurbished a home in Colorado Springs, and spend their free time gardening and travelling around the world.
I started sewing at the age of 12, and I haven’t stopped yet. I make art to tell stories, and to delight the eye. I use fiber and fabrics because of their wonderful flexibility and infinite variety of color, pattern, and texture. In my work, I often include pieces of vintage linens and needlework. I like to pay tribute to the generations of anonymous women who didn’t consider themselves artists, but used their spare moments to create beauty.
